Introducing: Junie's Ceramic

We are shining our Artist Spotlight on the magical pieces of Junie’s Ceramics (Maegan June Collins) with her latest Petal Collection.

“The Petal Collection is a series of functional ceramic objects which explores colour interaction using slip — a form of liquid clay. Just like watercolour paint, diluted slip is translucent and can be layered on top of itself.

To make each piece in the petal collection, several colours of slip are sequentially poured over the side of each form, creating a graphic pattern. When two colours overlap, a new colour is formed. The result is a decorative surface that captures the fluidity and spontaneous movement of slip.”

Junie’s Ceramics is currently home in Clay Design’s window display! Take a stroll on by for a personal viewing of these beauties.

Spooky Season Has Arrived

As the seasons change, so does an artist’s style.

Mari Lise Stonehouse has been experimenting with her Sandstone Speckled Slip lately, and you can see the unique textures and colour blend really bring her pieces to life!

This collection fits right in with the local ghouls and ghosts. After all, who said spooky can’t be cozy and classy?

We Are Back

It’s been a wild ride of a year but Clay Design and its team are still standing strong!

We want to thank the community and everyone who supported us at the height of the pandemic, and those who continue to support us. We would not be where we are today without you.

A variety of classes are up and running with COVID-19 precautions in place; please contact us if you have any inquiries.

Alix Davis

Alix Davis has new work on display in the window till May 24th.

Is a Toronto-based artist creating ceramic tableware that speaks of many years of use, as in beautifully prepared food served to generations of appreciative diners in calm settings.

In my recent work I am investigating classic, historical shapes and decoration. Leaving exposed traces of the clay body that supports the glaze acknowledges the underlying material structure, as well as implying traces of wear.
