MARI LISE STONEHOUSE

Mari Lise creates romantic vases and bowls in soft sensuous colours, playful updates of traditional French country tableware.

These large serving bowls and elegant platters remind us of sumptuous meals served under a vine-covered arbour.

Since 1983 Mari Lise has been a partner in Clay Design studio/gallery. It was on her initiative that pottery classes became a vital activity in this studio where she continues to teach and to practice her craft.

Artist's Statement:

"I can never decide whether I am a potter or a dog whisperer. Certainly, my passion for things that grow (and for things that crawl on things that grow!) shows itself in how I adorn my ceramic work. For example, one might find a cicada creeping near the rim of a vase, or a dark fern curled around the contour of a bowl. My collection at Clay Design offers an array of functional wares. I create work in soft, romantic colours and my decorative touches are both playful and nostalgic."
